Father's Day is a couple days away. Here is a free crochet pattern for a simple necktie for your favorite dad. It's shape is based off of a vintage skinny tie from my husband's collection.
The necktie was made with fingering weight cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. It can be made with any yarn but will look best in a non-fuzzy yarn. It looks really elegant made in a twisted silk yarn.
The tie is 64 inches long. The widest point of the blade is 3 inches and the tail is 1 inch wide.
Gauge:15 sc in 14 rows makes a 2 inch square.
Note: Gauge is not very important in this design. Approximate measurements for each section of repeats are given below to accommodate different yarns. Adjust the pattern as necessary by removing rows to achieve the given lengths.
Special Stitches:Odd Decrease (Odd Dec): sc2tog twice over 3 stitches, where the middle stitch is shared by both decreases. Even Increase (Even Inc): [sc, sc2tog, sc] over 2 stitches, where the sc2tog shares the same stitches as the sc.
Body: Row 1: Ch 2, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Row 2: Ch, 2 sc in each st, turn. (4 sts) Row 3: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 2, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (6 sts) Row 4: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 4, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (8 sts) Row 5: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 6, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (10 sts) Row 6: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 8, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (12 sts) Row 7: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 10, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (14 sts) Row 8: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 12, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (16 sts) Row 9: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 14, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (18 sts) Row 10: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 16, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (20 sts) Row 11: Ch, 2 sc in the next st, sc 18, 2 sc in the next st, turn. (22 sts) Row 12: Ch, sc 22, turn. Note: This marks the widest point of the blade, just under 3 inches (the border will add a little to the width).
Row 13: Ch, sc 10, sc2tog, sc 10, turn. (21 sts) Rows 14-15: Ch, sc 21, turn. Row 16: Ch, sc 9, odd dec, sc 9, turn. (20 sts) Rows 17-18: Ch, sc 20, turn. Row 19: Ch, sc 9, sc2tog, sc 9, turn. (1 st) Continue directly to the border without tying off (Fig. 1).

Border:
Ch, sc in the side of each row with 3 sc in each "corner".
Tie off. Weave ends in.
Keeper Loop:
Start with a long end for sewing. Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 10, 4 sc in the last ch.
Turn to work the other side of the chain, sc 10, 3 sc in the last ch, sl st in the first sc.
Tie off. Leave a long for sewing. Sew on to the back of the tie ~9 inches from the tip of the blade, wherever it fits nicely.
Be careful not to stitch all the way through the body of the tie or your sewing will show.
The tie will twist unless it is blocked. Steam blocking or wet blocking will work. Choose the best method for your fiber.
Consider embellishing the blade of the tie with embroidery to give it that personal touch.
